Shakespeare Harris, professional makeup artist and dance manager at Bucks Wild, recalls the day that the club first opened. He casually recounts that it was Aug. 17, but his bespectacled eyes widen when he says the storm trouble “all came about on Aug. 27.” Before we plunge full-on into a melodramatic retelling of a sad and inspiring tale that all too many know already, I want to briefly look back... from http://www.freepresshouston.com/healing-from-harvey-one-dance-at-a-time/

from http://houstonfoodblog.com/houstonfood/houston-food-blogs/thai-sweet-chili-sauce/ We all want our children to be healthy, and we know that this includes a healthy diet of foods that enable their growing bodies to be strong and function at their best. However, convincing a stubborn three year old of this is more difficult than it sounds. Often vegetables become the bad guys, and for […] The post 3 Strategies to Encourage Your Kids To Eat More Vegetables … Once & For All appeared first on Houston Moms Blog. from http://houston.citymomsblog.com/strategies-to-get-kids-eating-more-vegetables/
Per their website: the meat is 5.75oz patties made from Black Angus beef supplied by 44 Farms in Cameron, TX. No hormones, no additives, no antibiotics, NEVER EVER! The buns are Our very own recipe (sshhhh!), produced fresh daily by Slow Dough bakery in Houston, TX! Produce is Fresh, quality vegetables grown across all of Texas! Beer is Craft beer brewed locally in Houston, TX by St. Arnold Brewing Company! Ice cream used in the shakes is Amy's Ice Cream has been in Houston since the early 1990s and has become a Houston institution! We're proud to use their delicious ice cream in our milkshakes! And the wine for those who want it: We are committed to supporting the growth of Texas wineries and all of our wines are made from grapes grown in the Lone Star state! (note from Hank: I will also add that while I would have been happy if Bacon had been available as a topping, Uncle Tex was happy it wasn't, plus that the only serve Saint Arnold Beer and are keyed in on supporting Local Products!!!) The location in the Heights off of Durham is a converted Service Station where the old covered pump Island has been converted into a nice patio. The interior includes some really wild artwork featuring Saint Arnold Beer and Jack Nicholson being homaged there. My son Jason got a real laugh off of the "Here's Johnny" Mural. Scary art notwithstanding, we didn't take too long to make up our minds on our orders. I went with the cheeseburger (only American Cheese y'all!) with all toppings except onions--you add your own sauce from a condiment station; I am an Easy Mayo/Easy Mustard kind of guy. My son went with the kid's cheeseburger his way--just cheese and bun, he added ketchup himself! For those who ask (cough cough Ken Hoffman, Alison Cook) the Veggies were below the patty and the cheese was fully melted over the clearly hand-formed patty. As you can see from the photo, this was an amazing looking burger (can I say Amaze-balls?) In fact, someone thought the hand formed patty was a bunch of meatballs! The patty was juicy, not greasy, and had a strong salt and pepper seasoning essence, but wasn't over-seasoned. What you got a was a good, tasty, pure beef juicy flavour, and nothing else was needed. The Veggies were fresh, crisp and the pickles salty, briny, hint of dill. Again, not a frou-frou burger, but a pure burger with good flavour. Of course no burger is complete without fries, and Balls Out Burger has 3 kinds: shoestring, hand cut, or sweet potato. While I like all 3, Jason prefers hand-cut, so that's what we got. The hand cut fries have some of the potato skins still on them, are seasoned with a simple salt and pepper garnish, are very crispy outside and soft inside. Again, no extra frills added, but good, pure, crunchy potato flavour shining through. Clearly the theme here at Balls Out Burger is everything you want in a pure burger and fries, nothing you don't, and these fries stand up just fine with any other place's natural cut fries. Sometimes you want garlic parmesan, sometimes you just want plain ol' salt and pepper. My son is a French Fry fiend and there were no leftovers, which speaks to the fact these were good fries. Report Card for Balls Out Burger: Food: Cheeseburger: A Kid's Cheeseburger: A Fries: A Service: Speed: A- Friendliness: A Cleanliness: Dining Area/Patio: A Kitchen: A Men's Room: A Atmosphere: Local oriented Burger Joint: A Overall Grade: A Just a side note: if you are someone who wants a lot more options for toppings on a burger, Balls Out Burger may not be for you. Sometimes I want a lot of toppings, sometimes I just want a really good, pure burger with a beer and if that is what you want, then Balls Out Burger will satisfy that craving quite well! Balls Out Burger is located in the Heights at: 1603 N Durham Dr Houston, TX 77008 832-844-3359 Hours: Sun-Thu: 11 AM to 10 PM Fri-Sat: 11 Am to 11 PM Eat Happy, Y'all!!!吃得开心!!!Hank
